Job Description – Backup & Storage Specialist
Position brief: A backup & Storage Specialist oversees and ensures the security of a company’s data storage and retrieval systems. They collaborate with IT departments to establish effective backup procedures and ensure regular
testing. This Specialist’s responsibilities include creating and maintaining backup systems and ensuring the
business has a disaster recovery strategy.
Roles & Responsibilities:
∙Provide Tier1 and Tier2 support for backup server related issues as required.
∙Candidate shall be open to work in stretched shifts, 24X7 shifts, odd working hours, and weekends as per
the work requirements.
∙Proactive and reactive monitoring systems alerts and act according to that.
∙Provides direct technical support in Troubleshooting and implementing the infrastructure solution.
∙Candidates should have strong experience in Veritas NetBackup performing backup, recovery,
troubleshooting, performing proactive maintenance, and optimizing performance.
∙Candidates should have experience in Performing daily backup routine maintenance. Adding clients, configuring NetBackup agent on client systems, has the capability to provide guidance and take up escalations from the L1 team.
∙Candidates should have experience in vaulting and tape rotation. Ensure tapes are rotated from the tape
library periodically, Periodic patch management and maintenance for NetBackup Servers, clients, and
OpsCenter Server.
∙Ensure regular reporting to the management on Backup status, providing Dashboard, meeting Service level
client backup policies, and meet client SLA norms,
Should have worked with Disk based backup solution environment.
∙Strict Adherence to use of the ticketing system for All incidents, changes, and problems
∙Execute Monthly patch on system Infrastructure.
∙Should possess good product and domain knowledge, Strong troubleshooting skills.
∙Experience in backing up VMWare, SQL, and Oracle.
∙Experience with and full understanding of Storage Lifecycle Policies.
∙Candidate exposed to working in Production environment.
∙Design, implement, and manage enterprise storage solutions based on business requirements and industry
best practices.
∙Deploy and configure storage hardware, including storage area networks (SANs), network-attached storage
(NAS), and direct-attached storage (DAS) systems.
∙Develop and maintain storage policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure efficient storage
management and data protection.
∙Monitor storage performance and capacity utilization, and proactively address any issues to maintain
optimal storage performance and availability.
∙Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess storage requirements and provide recommendations for
storage infrastructure improvements.
∙Implement and manage data replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity
and availability.
∙Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as firmware upgrades, patch management, and storage system
configuration changes.
∙Troubleshoot storage-related issues and work with vendors for problem resolution and hardware
replacement if necessary.
∙Participate in capacity planning activities to forecast future storage requirements and ensure scalability of
storage infrastructure.
∙Stay updated with emerging storage technologies, trends, and best practices, and evaluate their potential
impact on the organization’s storage environment.
Qualifications and Skills:
B.Tech/BE/Diploma/Graduate in Computer science
6 – 12 Years of experience as Backup & Storage Specialist and technical support role.
Proven experience as a storage engineer or a similar role in designing, implementing, and managing
enterprise storage solutions.
In-depth knowledge of storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID, and file systems (e.g.,
NFS, SMB).
Hands-on experience with storage hardware from leading vendors (e.g., Hitachi, Dell EMC, NetApp, HPE,
IBM).
Proficiency in storage management tools and protocols, such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS/SMB,
and SCSI.
Strong understanding of data replication, backup, and disaster recovery concepts and methodologies.
Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and their integration with storage
systems.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex storage issues.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
